Last Dexa scan showed my darling husbands bones are getting denser.  He is due for another scan this month. Hopefully this new scan will show pronounced improvements for his 69 year old bones! Both his doctor and his physiotherapist said he was looking great. He was really proud of that! … [Read more...]

Vitamin B12 & Biotin – what these little beauties did for me

B12 I just started to take sub-lingual B12 1000mg tablets and the results are amazing.   As you know from this blog I am not a vegetarian or vegan so I shouldn't be deficient in this vitamin but.........why then have these little tablets given me such an incredible boost in my daily energy?  Who knows....maybe someone out there does? Anyway, after I started taking them my husband did a little research and came up with this quote from Gabriel Cousens who is a well known person in the raw … [Read more...]

Finale of the Italian odyssey: The Evolutionary Alkaline Paleo diet

Is the world's population evolving or devolving?  How much is our new SAD responsible for the what I see as the world's  de-evolution? I am asking myself these questions as we are on our way home after being in Italia for the last 6 months and am sitting in Bangkok International Airport.  We just ate by necessity a rather sweet meat and vegetable dish at an airport restaurant.  Everything is sweet in Thailand it seems. Till now I thought that the Thais' have been spared the SAD results … [Read more...]

Ian’s Osteoporosis, Broken Ankle, Atherosclerosis & Alzheimers Progress Report

In April 2011 Ian, my husband, and I made a video(below) and put in on you tube.  We talked about how coconut oil had been so effective after we discovered it could be used for Ian's Alzheimer's symptoms. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mMw3d3ohx_s In December 2011, just before Christmas. Italian Odyssey 5: Feminine Leadership 5 Day Workshop: Yikes the food!

I used to go on quite a lot of retreats in the past.  About six months ago it occurred to me that I would no longer be able to participate in one of my favourite retreats.    Why? Because the meals are all vegetarian.  My retreat leaders believe that eating meat is not right for spiritual growth.  Wow,  I am excluded simply because I cannot eat  grains and pulses that are a substantial part of the fare provided. And now I am here in this wonderful location in Italy, at this wonderful Feminine … [Read more...]

I asked Dr Jay Wortman about cramping while in Italy and here is his answer. What a sweetheart!

Hi Dr Jay, A question if you have any idea as to what is going on. My husband and I have been on the low carb diet for 2 years. We have been in Italy for the last 4 months and lately started having cramps. The cramps as not as bad as the ones I had when I began the diet 2 years ago (I didn’t know then about the big need for salt). But my husband didn’t get them at all when he started the diet. I have made up bone broth a few times that has stopped our cramps for a while and then they start … [Read more...]

A Question on Osteoporosis, Calcium Oxalate Kidney Stones and the Alkaline Paleo Program

A good question below and one close to my heart as my beloved has suffered with the same diseases.   Hello Cassie, I was following an alkaline/paleo diet until I developed calcium oxalate  kidney stones and osteoporosis. Many of the leafy greens contain high  oxalates and apparently animal protein leaches calcium from the bones. My Dr. has suggested I try eating low oxalate/high alkaline but that is easier  said than done. There are just so much confusing & contradictory … [Read more...]

How Important Are Good Fats on an Alkaline Paleo Diet? – Very Important!

Eating enough good meat fats, butter, ghee, coconut, olive oil is very important. There is a tendency in the those who are on this program to not eat enough especially fats.  We have been told for so long to not eat much fat it's very hard for us to immediately understand that good fats are not at all unhealthy. Once we no longer have wheat and grains in our diet we tend to start eating naturally less as the addictive cravings that made us eat these carbohydrates (especially the wheat) have gone … [Read more...]
